New Housing Projects Get Council Approval

Wednesday, July 10 2013

City council breezed through an agenda Tuesday night that included rezoning two properties, adjusting the budget and appointing a new member to the planning commission.

They unanimously approved the rezoning proposals, with Councilor Dennis Robinson commenting that he’s happy to see the private sector building houses.

“Hopefully some more land gets out there for housing so the city doesn’t have to take Kelty Park, which is unused, and convert that to a housing project.”

Council also unanimously approved amending the fiscal year 2014 budget ordinance to correct several technical errors in the document, and provide better accounting for small purchases.

Doanh Thi Tran was appointed to the city’s planning commission without discussion. She fills the spot vacated in May by Chris Spengler.

Who is this Dennis Robinson? I have yet to meet him. I have only been here a little over one year but I see people at the Kelty Ball Park all the time. I think the above foolish statement was made by a fool. Who would ever think about leveling such a beautiful ball park and build houses on it? Well, I guess only a fool.

I believe the "bridge to the other side" is named Jeff.

Ok let's not jump to conclusions. But yes names do matter. What is the official name of that park? How about name that park Frank Kelty Ball Field/Ounalashka Community Park. That's name is hard to remember. Here is my suggestion for naming that park; "That park in the valley". lol But seriously folks...

Like what is the name of that big bridge to the other side? I still call it "The bridge to the other side".

There is no mention of a Frank Kelty park on the City of Unalaska web site - So why does the web site call it Ounalashka Community Park? - seems we have a conflict here

I was at Frank Kelty Park the other day it was amazingly nice weather. there one only one lady and her child laying down in the baseball part of the park. How about some park benches and picnic table.

Don't pave it over. You never know what you got till it's gone.

Kelty Park is unused?!
