New Year Brings New Staff to City Hall

Friday, December 21 2012
Unalaska’s city hall is scheduled for more turnover in the next few months. Finance director Tonya Miller will leave her post on February 15 after six years of service, and head to another municipal job in Georgia.
Unalaska’s human resources manager, Kelly Stiles, says Miller is originally from Georgia, and had made it known that she wanted to move to be closer to family.
Stiles says she anticipates a tough search for Miller’s replacement, because requires an eclectic mix of interpersonal skills and municipal accounting experience. The director also needs to be comfortable with large-scale financial management, Stiles says. Unalaska’s operating budget alone, for the last fiscal year, was $24 million -- and the city is currently planning more than $40 million in capital projects over the next few years.
The job has been posted widely, and Stiles says city manager Chris Hladick will recruit candidates while he travels with family in the Lower 48 over the holidays.
Meanwhile, Unalaska’s hired a new assistant city manager. Patrick Jordan is the current Bristol Bay Borough manager, working for the communities of Naknek, South Naknek, and King Salmon. Previously, Jordan was a records manager for Tarrant County, Texas. He’ll start his new job in Unalaska in late January.
Stiles says she’s still seeking applicants for Unalaska’s city engineer position. The job has been open since September, and there’s currently no timeline in place to fill it.

...How's that working out?
Just Saying on Saturday, December 22 2012:
Well, well, well...It seems the people that should be leaving are not, and that is very sad. This city has had its fill of "Payton Place" episodes from city hall and all of its "bobble-heads" to the recent ex-Assistant City Manager, on up.
I hope the new assistant city manager, has more ethics and integrity in him than the recent and not so recent city management staffers. I hope he willnot be easily swayed by the city manager and the bobble-head city pawns. If we are not careful, Dutch Harbor will revert back to a nothing broke town, and we will be able to thank all those people in city hall for that. Good luck new city assistant manager....Good luck...
