No clear local HD37 winner in Unalaska

Unalaska, AK – There was no clear leader in the House District 37 race as polls closed in Unalaska at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Among candidates on the ballot, Democrat Bryce Edgmon leads Republican Ron Bowers 220 to 126 in the preliminary results for the Aleutians #2 precinct. But 214 write-in votes were cast, most of them presumably for incumbent Carl Moses, who mounted a write-in campaign after losing the Democratic primary to Edgmon. With about 45 absentee ballots cast in the district, as well as 26 question ballots and 7 personal representative ballots, either candidate could easily emerge as the local victor.
Other local results were more immediately apparent. Democratic former Gov. Tony Knowles beat Republican Sarah Palin handily for the Unalaska vote 339-186, and incumbent state Sen. Lyman Hoffman defeated Republican challenger Norman Ayagalria 367-165. Ballot Measure No. 1 (which would limit legislative sessions to 90 days) was approved 287-268, and Ballot Measure No. 2 (which would tax large North Slope gas reserves in the absence of a pipeline) failed 320-230.
