No quick resolution in Democratic primary

Unalaska, AK – A winner won't emerge anytime soon in the House District 37 Democratic primary race. Incumbent Carl Moses and challenger Bryce Edgmon are within one percentage point of each other, which means the race will almost certainly be too close to call before questioned ballots and absentee ballots are counted, a process that could take two weeks.

Although numbers for just 10 of 22 precincts are available from the state Division of Elections, a survey of polling places by radio stations KIAL and KDLG has Moses unofficially leading Edgmon 590-582 with 16 precincts reporting.

Six precincts are still unknown. One, Atka, is in the Aleutians, and one, Cold Bay, is on the Alaska Peninsula. The other four are in the Bristol Bay and Nushagak River region, where early numbers appeared to favor Edgmon. But Moses has pulled off a couple of surprises in that part of the district, winning 12 to 3 in South Naknek and falling just one vote shy of Edgmon in Aleknagik.

But with more than 80 questioned ballots in Dillingham and Unalaska alone and far more absentee ballots, all of which will take time to count and review, an answer to who will be representing Democrats in this year's general election could take a while.

Unofficial reports from the Division of Elections show Ron Bowers of Dillingham leading the pack in the Republican primary with 169 votes, followed by Joe Faith of Dillingham with 142 and Vincent Tutiakoff from Adak with 79.
