Ounalashka Corp. Searches for New CEO

Thursday, October 02 2014
The Ounalashka Corporation’s top executive will step down next summer.
Rick Miller told his board of directors that he won’t renew his contract when it ends in June 2015. Board chair Vince Tutiakoff says Miller announced his decision earlier this summer, saying he wants to spend more time with family in Anchorage.
"With all the traveling that he’s had to do from Anchorage, being in Unalaska, living here, he felt he needed to move on," Tutiakoff says. "So we’re going to find somebody that lives in this community, that’ll be part of the community, to help OC develop their future plans."
He says Miller will probably still work for the corporation in a role that’s yet to be determined.
Miller has been CEO since 2012. Before that, he was an accounting and finance consultant for the corporation. Tutiakoff says Miller used that expertise in his time at the helm.
"I felt he’s been very valuable in … that OC, over the past few years, we needed to tighten up our accounting system, and so that really helped us there," Tutiakoff says.
Miller’s also overseen some major developments for OC -- from the corporation’s new apartment building on Biorka Drive, to its first steps toward building an industrial complex off Little South America.
Tutiakoff says they hope to find a full-time replacement for Miller by next March.
