Police detain man after watery chase

Unalaska, AK – This weekend, a 45-year-old man was arrested after a very short and wet police chase.
UniSea security reported that Marcus Hamilton of Unalaska had been trespassing on company property. When police attempted to arrest him, Hamilton supplied a false name and jumped out a second-story window from the Harbor View Inn in an attempt to escape. Hamilton then allegedly ran from the police, cutting through Bering Fishery plant property and jumping into the Small Boat Harbor channel. Hamilton swam toward Airport Beach Road, but was unable to avoid the police on the other side.
"When he was confronted again and he looked like he was going to jump back into the water, one of the officers deployed a taser, which stopped him," says Sgt. Matt Betzen of the Unalaska Department of Public Safety. "They were able to handcuff him up and drag him out of the water -- the officers got all wet. They called EMS; he went to the clinic; and then he made his way to the jail."
Hamilton has been charged with criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, and providing false identification. He was also previously arrested for trespassing at the Harbor View Bar in January.
