Police Search for Car Prowlers

Wednesday, November 27 2013

In Unalaska, it’s not exactly common practice to lock your car doors. But that’s what the Department of Public Safety is recommending drivers do after a string of thefts last week.

Deputy chief Michael Holman says the first report came in around 9 p.m. last Tuesday. It was from a woman who said a pair of sneakers went missing from her daughter’s car while the girl was at volleyball practice.

Since then, two other people have reported items stolen from their vehicles. Another person said their car had been rifled through, but nothing was missing.

Holman says officers are interviewing people who may have witnessed suspicious activity. Anyone with information about the thefts is encouraged to contact Public Safety -- and anyone with a car is encouraged to secure it after they park.
