Pollock A Season Gets Underway

Monday, January 20 2014

The Bering Sea’s largest fishery has started up again. As of noon on Monday, 1.267 billion million metric tons of pollock are up for grabs.

That’s a slight increase over last year’s quota. Fishery managers say that there’s strong recruitment -- lots of new pollock being born and growing up to replace the fish that are taken in the commercial harvest. Trawlers are expecting a robust winter "A" season.

"A" season will continue through April.
