Public Works Director Wins Statewide Recognition

Tuesday, November 27 2012

Unalaska Public Works Director Nancy Peterson was recently recognized as the Alaska Municipal League’s Employee of the Year. City Manager Chris Hladick says she got a standing ovation from the crowd when the award was announced.

“They read a little bio, and so they lead up to who the person is without saying who they are or where they’re from. And Nancy was very surprised by it.”

Peterson was nominated by other city directors, who submitted their recommendation to the AML board. Hladick says the board applauded her work on the Carl E. Moses small boat harbor.

“Also was mentioned [sic] her management of the various projects in the community - from the powerhouse to the landfill, etcetera.”

Peterson was competing for the award with employees from 140 municipalities across the state. This is the second time an Unalaska city employee has received the award - Hladick was honored with it three years ago.
