Friday, February 05 2010

Unalaska, AK – The Unalaska Raiders boys and girls basketball teams faced their first set of opponents yesterday in the Barrow Invitational. Both teams faced the Nome Nanooks, who defeated them in Bethel last weekend.

The girls played first. Though they were behind the entire game, in the fourth quarter they strutted their stuff and pushed forward. They scored 11 points that quarter, the best they had all game. However, the Lady Nanooks doubled the Raiders score and won 52 to 26.

The boys faired a bit worse. The Raiders lost to Nome 80 to 38. One Nome player alone, Tim Sullivan, scored 36 points. They had a similar defeat to Nome, one of the best teams in the state, in Bethel last week.

Both the girls and boys will play again Friday at 6:30 pm and 8 pm and Saturday at 3:30 and 5. You can catch the games live on KUCB 89.7 FM.
