Salmon escapement rises at Wislow

Thursday, July 16 2009

Unalaska, AK – Sockeye salmon escapement into McLees Lake from Reese Bay, or Wislow, is up to 9,245 fish. That's almost 600 fish more than last year's total but still well below escapements from 2001 to 2007. U.S. Fish and Wildlife life will continue counting at the weir until escapement numbers are less than about 92 fish per day for 3 consecutive days. Last year they stopped counting on July 20th. The area, other than the mouth, are still open to fishing.
