School District Hires New Principals

Both of Unalaska’s schools will have new principals next year.
Jim Wilson, the current junior high department head, will be replacing Glenn Cole at Unalaska City School. Superintendent John Conwell says that Wilson was selected out of a pool made up of external and internal candidates, and that his familiarity with the school made him a natural pick.
“Knowing the district as well as he does, I think it’s going to be a fairly smooth transition,” Conwell says of Wilson.
Cole has served as Unalaska City School for five years, and will be moving to Point Lay to work as a principal of the Kali School in the North Slope Borough, according to Conwell.
Meanwhile, Jeannie Shiaffo, a special education instructor based in Dillingham, is replacing Eagle View Elementary Principal Lorrie Scoles. Conwell says that Schiaffo’s training will be an asset to the elementary school.
“That’s an area where we could really use some assistance, so I’m really excited about her background in special education,” says Conwell.
Scoles worked as the principal at Eagle View Elementary for two years.
