Search for missing fisherman goes inactive

Unalaska, AK – A missing person case involving an area fisherman was downgraded to inactive status on Tuesday, according to the Unalaska Department of Public Safety.
John F. Courage has now been missing for seven weeks, and the police have exhausted their leads. The 56-year-old fisherman disappeared on December 29, leaving his personal effects on the F/V Alaska Trojan, where he had been conducting boat watch. Sgt. Matt Betzen says that many interviews have been conducted in an attempt to establish Courage's whereabouts, but that they haven't provided any clues as to what happened to Courage.
"Right now, we have no other leads to pursue," says Betzen. "In other words, we've contacted everyone who we thought might have any contact with him - local businesses, the airport, all of the boats."
Additionally, divers have searched for Courage in Captains Bay, near the Crowley Dock where the Alaska Trojan was moored. The Alaska State Troopers and the Coast Guard have been alerted to Courage's missing status, and flyers requesting information on Courage have been posted around town. His name has also been added to state and missing person databases.
"We've reached the point where we literally have no one else who has even told us a rumor about something else to check out," says Betzen. "We've done everything we can think of."
Betzen adds that should the Department of Public Safety learn any more information about Courage's whereabouts, the case will be moved back to active status.
Courage was last seen at Alaska Ship Supply wearing a red shirt, a black jacket, and jeans.
