Seven Raider Wrestlers Advance to State
Monday, December 09 2013
Seven Unalaska wrestlers have earned a trip to state finals.
The Raiders competed at the Great Alaska conference meet this weekend in Dillingham. To be eligible to move on to the state championships, wrestlers had to finish in the top four in their weight class.
Gabe Kochuten, Rainier Marquez, Tommy Nguyen, Tristan Waldron, Kim Gumera, and Dylan Magnusen all made the cut, with Magnusen winning first place in the 182-pound division. Trey Henning placed fifth in his weight class. Henning was moved up to a state berth after the fourth-place finisher in his class was disqualified, says coach Steven Gregory.
Next weekend, the Raider wrestlers will travel to Anchorage for the combined 1A, 2A, and 3A state championships at Anchorage Christian School.
