Skull turned in to state troopers

Unalaska, AK – Workers at the cattle ranch on Umnak Island found the top half of a human skull and turned it in to the authorities last week. According to police reports, a person brought the skull first to the Museum of the Aleutians, but staff said they could not accept it and told them to take it to Public Safety. The Department of Public Safety had the skull taken to the Alaska State Troopers because it was found outside of the city.
The skull was found at the former military site of Fort Glenn. Troopers are sending the piece to forensic anthropologists at the University of Alaska Fairbanks for identification. If it is found to be from an Alaska Native, it will be returned to the proper tribal authorities. If it is not, the state troopers will contact the military. Sgt. Jeff Manns reminds people not to dig in burial sites, but if you do come across human remains, report them to local authorities.
