Stellar Sea heads back to St. Paul

Unalaska, AK – The processing vessel Stellar Sea left Dutch Harbor today, three weeks after it caught on fire in the Bering Sea.
Inspectors signed off on the ship Monday after permanent and temporary repairs were made to its wiring and engine, according to Stellar Seafoods President Mark Weed. Now the ship is headed back to St. Paul Island with its crew and processors to work through the rest of the opilio crab harvest.
The Stellar Sea was the only processing ship scheduled to receive opilio crab deliveries in the northern area of the fishery last month, and the fire was a major setback for fishermen and processing companies.
It's been a rough season for Peter Pan Seafoods, which has the Stellar Sea under contract. The company's processing plant in King Cove was sidelined last week after a storm took out some of the plant's piping system.
