Unalaska, AK – Public Safety is monitoring a tsunami advisory for the region following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of central Chile. They do not expect a wave to hit Unalaska, only strong currents. In Alaska, the amplitude could be up to one meter. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, the ripple effects of the earthquake will hit Unalaska at about 4:38 pm.

However, according to the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, people in Hawaii are evacuating coastal areas in preparation for a large wave. Tourists in Waikiki were told to evacuate to higher floors in their hotels. Hawaii is under a tsunami warning. The entire west coast of the United States is under an advisory, which is a lower grade than a warning.
