Unalaska, AK – Thanksgiving is on its way, which means it's time for the Turkey Trot. The Parks Culture & Recreation Department is hosting Unalaska's version of the nationwide walk/run for the third year in a row tomorrow. As with past years, the proceeds go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The PCR Department's Terry Quirk said she hopes to get a good crowd.
"We anticipate people walking with their families, bringing their dogs, young children in strollers and backpacks, just like last year," she said.
A $35 donation gets you a t-shirt, which will be distributed sometime after the event. A $75 donation gets you a t-shirt and a backpack.
The walk/run goes from the PCR to Kelty Field and back, about two miles. Quirk said that for people who don't want to brave the elements, there are other ways to participate.
"If they don't want to go out and endure the weather, they can come down to the community center and work out free for an hour, or watch a basketball game for an hour, and dedicate their time that way," she said.
The walk/run kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the community center.
