Unalaska, AK – Two write-in candidates are now officially running for city council seat CC-G. Sean Makarin and Jessica Culp filled out the necessary paperwork with the city clerk this week, including financial disclosure forms and an official candidacy declaration. Their names will not appear on the ballot nor will election works be able to tell you that they are running, but their votes could be counted.

The city uses a machine to tally votes. The write-in area of the ballot needs to get more votes than at least one declared candidate. If this happens, then the ballots will be hand counted. Otherwise, it will be unknown how many votes either of them actually received. Don Graves and incumbent Dick Peck officially filed for the election in August and their names will appear on the ballot. All candidates who have filed the proper paper work will answer questions at the Candidates Forum Thursday at 7 pm in front of a live studio audience in the Burma Road Chapel.
