Unalaska Volleyball, Wrestling Teams Head to States

For the first time in recent memory, the Unalaska Lady Raiders volleyball team is headed to the state championships. The girls placed second in the Borealis Conference tournament in Talkeetna last week, winning three out of five games. The team took the tournament’s sportsmanship trophy and several individual players made the All Conference and All Tournament Teams. Kanesia Price was recognized for academic achievement.

The Lady Raiders will advance to the state championship at Dimond High School in Anchorage next weekend. Their first game is against Klawock, the defending region 2A champions, at 5:45 on Thursday.

Some members of Unalaska’s wrestling team will also be headed to states next week. The team placed fourth out of 21 teams in the Great Alaska Tournament on Friday, and four boys qualified for the state championship. Dylan Magnusen, Alec Magalong, and Connor McConnell took second place in their weight classes. Phillip Kuckuck took fourth in his. The team also won the academic achievement award. The state championships are Friday and Saturday at Nikiski High School.
