Unalaskans head to the polls

Tuesday, August 24 2010

Unalaska, AK – Today is primary day in Alaska. With no state legislators from the district running in uncontested races, Unalaska residents will only be voting on state-wide and national offices -- along with two ballot initiatives.

While most of the races for offices are mostly uncompetitive according to polls, the Lieutenant Governor spot on the Republican side has turned into a heated three-way race between Jay Ramras, Mead Treadwell, and Eddie Burke.

Of the two initiatives Alaskans will be voting on, one concerns a measure to restrict single-source contracting and lobbying, and the other involves parental notification for girls under 17 who are seeking abortions.

About 30 percent of Alaska residents are expected to head to the polls today. Registered Unalaska voters can head to City Hall by 8 o'clock tonight to vote on these candidates and issues.
