Unalaska's State Legislators Running for Reelection Unopposed

Parts of Alaska are gearing up for hotly contested elections this fall -- but not the Aleutian Islands or Bristol Bay. Both of the region’s state legislators are running unopposed, after the deadline to file as a candidate passed on Monday.
Twenty-year state Sen. Lyman Hoffman will be the only candidate for his seat in August’s primary. He represents the Aleutians, Bristol Bay and parts of the Y-K delta.
State Rep. Bryce Edgmon is also running unopposed in the region. He’s served in the Aleutians before, but right now, he represents Dillingham.
That’ll change with redistricting this year. Edgmon is returning to a newly redrawn district that stretches from the Aleutians and the Alaska Peninsula to Bristol Bay and the Upper Kuskokwim.
The area’s current state representative, Bob Herron, is moving to the Lower Kuskokwim district. He, too, will be running unopposed.
