On Sunday, May 11, the Unalaska High School auditorium rang with the music of 30 young musicians in the annual Spring Piano Recital. Students range in age from 5 to 16. Almost every seat was filled with family, friends, community members and dignitaries. Even the celebrity a cappella group Vox Machine came to support the piano students, to the thrill of several young fans.
The piano students of Lynda Lybeck Robinson performed a variety of upbeat, jazzy or classical selections, and each student, in addition to their solo piece, shared a duet piece which they had prepared with Ms Lynda, siblings or classmates. Audience reaction was livelier than ever, and the spirit of the performers appeared to be pretty high. Smiles were broad, a few high fives between kids after their successful playing or exciting duet presentation were witnessed.

Just in time for spring, Vic Fisher invited local naturalist Suzi Golodoff to talk about the flowering plants of Unalaska on his morning radio show. Vic asked her about what brought her to Unalaska, the making of the book, and some of the changes in the new edition. If you missed it, you can stream the audio here:
