Soup-Off Fundraiser a Big Success

On April 5, 2014, community members gathered at the high small gym for the annual Soup-Off. The purpose of the Soup-Off is to raise funds for Unalaskans Against Sexual Assault & Family Violence (USAFV). 30 soups were entered, compared to 23 last year. And the winners are...

Pick.Click.Give Supports Local Nonprofits

This year, more Alaskans than ever donated a record amount to Alaska's nonprofits, according to Pick.Click.Give.  While applying for the yearly Permanent Fund Dividend, individuals had an opportunity to donate funds to a variety of organizations in their own communities and around the state.  These statistics were recently announced:

  • $2,771,400 was donated (13% growth over 2013)

UCSD Student of the Week: Mark Mina

The High School Department selected Mark Mina as Student of the Week for the following reasons:

  • Mark has shown a great aptitude for learning. His excellent performance at the language competition earned him a Gold Medal. He has qualified for the National Honor Society. Mark is an all-around steady student. -Mr. Dickrell, Social Studies Teacher
  • Mark is an outstanding student in my German class. He shows a high aptitude and is self-motivated in completing his assignments. He has very good study habits and works really well with other students. Mark is a very polite and pleasant person to work with-Mrs. Roraback, Foreign Language Teacher

Caller reported that the tracks in the snow indicated an erratic driver. Officers were unable to follow the snow tracks to a suspect vehicle due to the plethora of other snow tracks intermingled throughout the roadway.

Officer contacted the driver of a vehicle after the vehicle’s hood flew up. Fafagu Aasa, 23 yoa, issued two citations, DWLS and No Vehicle Insurance.
