On Thursday, January 23, Mr. Good’s 6th grade class took math class outside. In an exercise of radius, diameter, and circumference, the students and their teacher built four stunning snowmen and a small outdoor “classroom” surrounded by snowballs. The snowmen were named Peppy Marshmallow, Scarden, Banana Split, and Robert.
After taking measurements of their newly created snowfriends, the sixth graders headed back to their classroom.
Raiders Basketball Teams Host Bethel in Home Meet

Boys Basketball Tip-Off
The Unalaska Raiders girls and boys basketball teams competed in a home meet the weekend of January 10th and 11th. The Raiders played against teams from Bethel and lost both nights. The scores on Friday for the girls team were 25-52 Bethel and boys 40-57 Bethel, and on Saturday the girls scored 26-45 Bethel and boys 44-75 Bethel. "Both teams played well and improved over the weekend" said girls coach Kevin Ley. "The Raiders played against tough Bethel teams." In between the varsity basketball games on Friday, the Alaska National Guard held a Veteran's Recognition & Enlistment Ceremony to honor local veterans.

Magic Tournament Winners
Would-be wizards matched wits in the Parks, Culture, and Recreation multipurpose room on January 4th in Unalaska's first official 'Magic: The Gathering' tournament. 18 middle and high school competitors faced off in the strategic card game where players collect cards, build decks, and duel their opponents. The local tournament was designed by PCR coordinators Carlos Tayag and Andrew Miller to reflect the Magic: The Gathering sanctioned rules and structure. Unalaska's reigning champion with the winning combination of strategy and luck was Kei Kawada followed by Johnny Khongsuk in second place.
