With each blueberry season the community looks forward to Unalaska’s annual Blueberry Bash! Over 150 people attended the event held last month on Sunday, September 29th in the high school gym. This annual gathering has been a feature in Unalaska for 25 years, and remains one of the town’s most beloved events. Unalaska Pride hosted the event and there was a total of 48 mouth-watering entries, with creations including everything from blueberry Panna Cotta to balsamic blueberry grilled cheese. Judges tasted the delicacies and determined the winners based on criteria such as the presentation, flavor, texture, tartness, and sweetness of each dish. Once they were finished, the winners were announced and prizes awarded. Tammy Rowland won 1st place for her spiced blueberry jam along with Donia Guge for her white chocolate blueberry scones and Amy VanOstenbridge for her blueberry salsa. Meanwhile, Debbie Sensky was given two 1st place awards for both her blueberry cobbler crunch and chocolate blueberry truffles. After learning the winners, the eager crowed was allowed to mingle amongst the tables of delectable blueberry desserts and sample everything for themselves. Blueberry artwork was on display and Ethan Iszler’s blueberry picture won 1st place, while Alysha Callaham took home the prize for finding this year’s biggest blueberry. As one of the longest-running and most well-attended events on the island, it is safe to say that this year’s Bash was a resounding success.

KUCB's annual One Day Radio Pledge Drive hit the airwaves on Friday, October 4 from 7 AM till midnight. Staff, Board members and volunteers DJ'ed throughout the day with different themes of music playing each hour while community members were invited to come down to the studio, take a tour, request a favorite song and make a pledge to support community radio in Unalaska.
Thanks to our many donors, we raised $23,455, which is slightly above last year's total. We are also very pleased that the number of members increased 28% over last year! We appreciate our loyal long-time members and first time members alike. We are also grateful to our small business members who continue to support us year after year. Without all of our donors, we could not continue to bring programs and services to Unalaska and beyond.
