School Board Seat D: Tammy Fowler Pound

Monday, September 16 2013

Hello! My name is Tammy Fowler Pound and I am running for School Board Seat D. I would appreciate your vote on Tuesday, October 1st.
I have enjoyed serving the students, parents, teachers/staff and community of Unalaska since my original appointment in January of 2000. My oldest son, Jack, attended UCSD from the time he was a three-year-old in Miss Susan's pre-school class until graduation in 2010. Rosie, who is now a junior and looking forward to her senior year, and Mary, who is rockin' 7th grade, also started their school careers with Miss Susan. I feel the community driven vision and mission statement of the district, coupled with a caring and supportive community, have provided my students an amazing foundation for their future.
I am proud to be a part of the Unalaska City School District Board of Education. I have always believed we have the best teachers, amazing staff, and a community that cares, and I will continue to do the work necessary to provide all our students with an education that helps to prepare them to meet the upcoming challenges they will face while transitioning into adulthood. I plan on remaining focused on education issues that will continue to move our district forward and would appreciate your support.
Have a great day!

School Board Seat C: Abner Hoage

Monday, September 16 2013

Hello Unalaska, my name is Abner Hoage and I am a candidate for Unalaska City School Board Seat C.  I was initially appointed to this seat in February of 2013 following Tonya Miller’s departure from Unalaska.

My family and I moved here in June of 2012 after my retirement from the US Air Force.  I have two children that attend UCSD a son in 6th grade and a daughter in 11th grade.  One of things that we really drew us to this community is the quality of our schools.  We have great teachers, administrators, students, and parents  all working in partnership “To Provide and Exemplary Education”.

This is consistently apparent through the performance of our schools in standardized testing and school rating measures.  For example when the new Alaska State Performance Index (ASPI) scores were announced this year Eagle’s View Elementary earned four stars, and Unalaska City School earned five stars.  This is just one of many accomplishments that teachers, students, administrators, staff and parents have to be proud of and that demonstrate the exemplary education that is provided by the Unalaska City School District.

I have enjoyed being a member of the Unalaska City School Board over the past 8 months and look forward to continuing to serve for the next 3 years.  If elected I will work in partnership with parents, community members, teachers, and administrators to ensure we accomplish our mission and provide an exemplary education that prepares our students to enter the world of opportunities.

Abner L. Hoage

My name is Denise Rankin and I would like to ask for your vote for Unalaska City School Board Seat E.

I've lived in Unalaska since 1975.  I was in the 1st grade when my mother brought us to live in her hometown.  I attended Unalaska City School until graduation in 1987.  After graduation I decided to continue to make Unalaska my home, working for Alaska Commercial Co., Magone Marine, Markair, Iliuliuk Family & Health Services, and now 16 years at the Ounalashka Corporation as their Property & Leasing Manager.
