2015 Polar Bear Run results

The 2015 Polar Bear Run took place on February 22nd and was the kick off to the 2015 racing season. The Polar Bear Run is a flat out and back, 5k (3.1 mile) course that starts on Summer Bay Road near Memorial Park in Unalaska. There were 44 racers, 4 dogs, and a polar bear that lined up at the starting mark. The weather was perfect with the sun shining and a few snow flurries. As the horn sounded for the start, runners and dogs took off but, the Polar Bear, also known as Polar Bear Clarence, stayed at the starting line to encourage the runners as they finished. Thanks for Supporting the Channel 8 Auction

Tuesday, March 03 2015

Last week's auction brought in over $19,000 to support local TV station Channel 8.  As always, the Auction draws tremendous resources and we couldn't thank everyone who pitched in to make the event possible.  TelAlaska provided us with 6 phone lines this year, resulting in more bidding and fewer busy signals.  We are grateful to the City of Unalaska PCR Department for use of the Burma Road Chapel, and Bryan Stafford and North Pacific Fuel for donating food for our staff and volunteers.  We appreciate the 60 people who volunteered, and the generosity of local businesses who donated items in a tremendous show of community support!  Most of all, thanks to YOU for bidding high.   The next challenge is collecting money and sending items home with winners.  We're here every day this week from 10:30 AM until 6 PM.  Not sure if you won an item?  Check out our auction results.  We're also in the midst of our Channel 8 Pledge Drive and it's not too late to renew your Channel 8 membership.  Our pledge drive will continue through March 11th, when we hold the drawing for an Alaska Airlines plane ticket LIVE on Flash! Unalaska.
