Raiders Place Second at State NYO

Unalaska’s young athletes finished big this weekend at the 45th Annual Native Youth Olympics.

The Raiders team took second place overall at the state competition. And junior Kim Gumera was the male Athlete of the Meet.

He took first place for Alaskan High Kick and Two-Foot High Kick, and second place for One-Foot High Kick.

Unalaska’s Kaye Gumera, Connor McCracken, Neil Bucaneg, Brian Conwell and Alyssa Roxas also placed in their events.


Raiders Take Third at State 2A Basketball Tournament

It’s the end of a historic season for the Unalaska Raiders boys’ basketball team. They took third place in their return to the state 2A tournament, almost 20 years after their last run.

The boys won two of their three games at states, first against Chevak on Monday, 59-31.

They lost to Glenallen in the second round on Tuesday. Coach Kent Russell says it was a close, defensive game, with a final score of just 28-21.

The Unalaska Raiders boys’ basketball team will fly out for the state 2A tournament in Anchorage on Saturday, weather permitting.

It's the first time in almost two decades that they've qualified for high school March Madness.

The team has spent their whole snowy spring break in intense practices -- getting ready mentally and physically to compete at states.

The Unalaska Raiders boys’ basketball team is heading for March Madness in Anchorage next week.

The boys clinched a spot in the state 2A championship with big wins at regionals last weekend.

Coach Kent Russell says they beat Bristol Bay twice, both times by at least a 20-point margin.


Raiders Fall to Dillingham in Close Double Header

The Raiders boys’ basketball team fell to Dillingham in a pair of close games this past weekend, as they head into the end of their regular season.

The boys played away on Saturday and Monday. The first game went into overtime, and came down to a three-pointer from Dillingham with just a second on the clock. That gave the Wolverines a 49-48 win.

The Unalaska Raiders hit the court this weekend for their first basketball games of the season.

The girls' team traveled to Naknek for three hard-fought matches against Bristol Bay High School, while the boys logged two victories at home against the Bristol Bay Angels. 


Raider Boys Bounce Past Bristol Bay

The Unalaska Raiders came out strong in their first home basketball games of the season.

The Raider boys defeated the Bristol Bay Angels in back-to-back matches on Thursday and Friday. They won by more than 40 points each time.

On Saturday, the coaches decided to switch gears. Bryan Anderson of Bristol Bay and the Raiders’ Kent Russell agreed to cancel their final game.
