 The Junior High Department selected Lisa Tran as Student of the Week for the following reasons:

• Lisa is a quiet force in the English classroom. She unfailingly not only completes her homework on time, but gives every single assignment her best effort. Her work is high quality and shows excellent growth due to the fact that she revises meticulously, asks questions, and endeavors patiently to succeed. She is beginning to express herself in class and to make her good ideas heard by all. Also, let’s not forget Lisa’s respectfulness as a listener in class as well as a peer who works well with all. Keep up the great work, Lisa! – Ms. Purevsuren, English

The Turkey Trot is a fun 5K run that Parks, Culture, & Recreation sponsors each year as a special event for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. It takes place each year on the evening before Thanksgiving and all proceeds that are raised are given to St. Jude. Running times are not recorded, but participants were encouraged to finish and join together for refreshments afterwards. Instead of presenting awards for running times, awards are given to the top fundraisers. The awards always include elements of a Thanksgiving dinner.This year the PCR gave away a turkey to 1^st place, a pumpkin pie to 2^nd place, and sweet potatoes and marshmallows to 3^rd place. In total, the event raised $1,735 for St. Jude Children's Hospital.

The Arts and Crafts Fair is an annual event sponsored by the Aleutian Arts Council to promote local artisans in and around Unalaska. The fair is typically held on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving, and this year's event took place on Saturday, November 30th. Only handmade, original art or craft items are allowed to be sold, with an exemption for non-profit organizations. Over the years, vendors have sold creations such as paintings, sculptures, prints, jewelry, photography, quilting, knitting, literature, and even baked goods. This year there were 22 booths of artisans selling their wares.
